Not a whole lot of personal change since my last 2 posts, although the world (specifically the US) has had some historical moments.
In my last post, I mentioned that the power went out. Thru a series of networking (my next door neighbor called a friend, who called a friend, who called a friend... about 6 levels deep, until they had someone who had the phone number of the maintenance guy who lives about 10 minutes away). He came over around 8pm, did something (even he has no clue what he did) but the power came back on!
I see that on the post before that (Dec. 20th) I was concerned about getting behind the wheel of the truck. Believe it or not, I still haven't done that! I was actually about to on Friday (1/8) with Mitch accompanying me, but alas, the truck wouldn't start. The alternator was replaced last year, and he recharged the batteries but it still won't start. At this point it could either be the starter or (as has happened in the past) it's out of gas (the sensor doesn't work so there's really no way of knowing). When Mitch gets home today, he will change over to either of the other 2 tanks and see if he can get it started. If not, I'll need to get it towed to our mechanic tomorrow. Mitch has his shoulder surgery one week from today (Mon. 1/18) so I absolutely need to have the truck working by then, since I'm not authorized to drive his company van and I don't want to tempt fate by driving it.
So... how did we celebrate New Year's Eve? Well, for the first time in about 8 years, we pulled out the Scrabble set and played our annual game (it was a tie, but I won when he gave me his leftover tiles). We usually also have lots of mixed drinks and 2 trays of nachos (made with refried beans, cheese, jalepenos, olives). We only had 1 glass of bloody marys and 1/2 tray of nachos. Nowhere close to the past. Guess we're getting old!!! But hey, we stayed up past 10:00!!! (watched the ball drop and went to bed about 5 minutes after!)
Historically speaking... since my last post, the electoral college confirmed Biden as the President Elect and on Jan. 6th, a day that will go down in history up there with 9/11, was an attempted coup on the Capitol when Congress was counting the electoral college votes. Not going to go into politics or history here as Google is always available. I just wonder when my neighbors are going to take down their Trump flags. Not sure if they're up because they somehow still think there's a chance before 1/20 to change things, or it's like taking down Xmas decorations, which sometimes doesn't happen until Feb or March!
Weatherwise... we've had a few cold days (40s and 50s); quite a few days where I need to put the heat way up, turn on the fireplace and wear 3 layers, only to open the windows by the afternoon. For me, anything below 70 is frigid! But mostly, on average, it's been in the high 60s/low 70s during the day. I'm trying to go out for walks as often as possible but to be honest, I haven't been able to get up the motivation to do so. I really need some kind of impetus. I know I still owe you/me photos of the lake which I can't take on Shabbat which has been the only time I've gone down there (with Mitch). It's a bit longer a walk but if I have no work ahead of me (especially on a Sunday when he's working), there's no excuse except I'm too lazy.
Well, we shall see. Mitch's surgery is scheduled 1 week from today and he should be home on disability for at least 6-8 weeks (I could be mistaken; it might be 3-6 weeks which is more likely). I'm honestly dreading that! But it's his shoulder, not his knee or hip, so perhaps if he's feeling up to walking, he can be my impetus.
Anyway, I hope to post again after his surgery, or give an update on the truck.
UPDATE 1: What is it about Mondays? In addition to the truck not starting, now the power went out again!!! Thankfully Mitch will be home in about an hour, unlike last time when he wasn't expected until midnight. But he still has 4 other issues to deal with when he gets home. Not a great day. He's at the doctor's office right now for his pre-op consultation. Reminder last visit he needed an ECG because the dr. didn't like the results of the EKG. I pray he comes home with good news.
