Update on life

So what is happening now?  Let's see...

This past Shabbat, we took our walk to the lake (approximately a 2-3 block walk) and it's the first time I did it without the cane.  I have pretty much given up using a cane.  I did have to stop a few times to rest my legs, but no doubt it's not due to arthritis pain but rather muscles not having been used.  I really, really need to find the motivation to go out walking every day to get those leg muscles toned (get a dog perhaps???)  Be nice if I could find a walking buddy.

I also haven't been behind the wheel of any vehicle (the truck in particular) since the end of June and honestly, I'm kind of scared to do so again.  Since Mitch is off work on Wed, I'm hoping we can take a trip to the recycle center and I will drive, with him in the passenger seat, just so I can get reacquainted.  If for no other reason (see below), I will need to drive him home from his surgery mid January.

We finally got the approval from the insurance company for Mitch to proceed with his shoulder replacement surgery.  It is currently scheduled for January 16th and he is in the process of pre-op stuff.  One of the required tests is an EKG. He had that last week and the dr. was concerned that there was an anomaly (her thoughts were an enlarged heart?) so on Wednesday, he is scheduled for an ECG to look further into this.  I recall I also had this problem (an anomaly on the EKG) and it was explained (and proven, in my case), that EKGs don't show the entire picture and even if there is an anomaly, it doesn't necessarily mean anything.  My ECG proved that to be the case (nothing at all there), so praying that will be the same situation with Mitch.

He had all last week off on vacation.  We feel really bad that we had to cancel our original plans to drive North to visit our daughter and SIL, but we were not only concerned with COVID, but realized a 10+ hour drive, without the ability to stop for rest & food, was way too ambitious for us these days.  So he spent the time off doing household chores.  We finally cleaned out our bedroom closet.  Amazing how much stuff we accumulated!  I really wanted to clean out EVERY closet, drawer & cabinet, not to mention the outside garage, but that was a bit too ambitious, especially because the toilet is broken again!!!  About every 6 months, it stops holding water and the parts (especially the seal) needs to be replaced.  This time it needs the seal, the ball and the pedal.  Mitch tried to accomplish this on one of his days off, but he failed because he didn't have the right parts.  The balance of the parts is expected to arrive today so when he gets home from work, he will take the toilet apart (for the 4th time this week) and try to get it working again.  Yes, things can always be much worse and we are so grateful for all of our blessings.
