Thoughts for the day

Is anyone receiving notices or reading these posts?  Please let me know (either via a comment or send me an email: cherylbnj@gmailcom). Otherwise, this is just a journal for myself (which is ok).

Mitch took down the sukkah today.  It was a wonderful holiday season, despite COVID. Unfortunately, due to Mitch's work schedule, my mobility challenges in getting down stairs, and weather, we didn't use it as much as we had hoped. We're supposed to live in it, or at the very minimum, have all our meals there.  Didn't happen.

My only thoughts right now is how much I hate this place where we're staying.  The lake is lovely and I'm sure I'll appreciate it more when I can painlessly walk the 2 blocks to get there.  But we're living in "Trumpland" where almost everywhere we go (including the home across from us and next to us) have Trump flags, and when driving around, there are numerous other flags, banners and lawn signs, we just feel so out of place.   We also haven't had the opportunity to get out and about to meet anyone.  I'm feeling extremely isolated (albeit that's a COVID requirement!)

Due to this, I have struggled with whether to put a menorah in the window during Chanukah, as we have done for, forever.  I was tempted to say no in fear, but decided that I'm proud to be Jewish and will continue to observe in the way I'm accustomed, be it as it may.  Fingers starred.**

The park continues to offer weekly entertainment including bingo and crafts, but there is no mention of social distancing or mask wearing.  In fact, yesterday, while Mitch was working outside and a few folks were taking their daily walks, they stopped and invited us to join the community for Thanksgiving dinner.  Aside from the fact that there's probably nothing we can eat, again -- PLAGUE!!!!!  As of right now, numbers are going up and I suspect by then will be a lot worse.  Mitch and I are doing everything in our power to stay safe but most of the country (especially those in FL) are not -- thanks to our "president" and "governor", most people here believe the pandemic is over and thus the rise in cases.

On an aside.... for the last 2 weeks, I have been having trouble breathing and coughing.  This isn't something new -- I tend to get bronchitis whenever the seasons change plus I was diagnosed with elm allergies last year when I had breathing problems.  I had a covid test and it came out negative, although I'm sure I didn't put the stick up my nose far enough so I'm not at all confident with the results.  But then again, I'm sure it's what I've had all the time so not all that worried.

I suppose I am also getting "hitch itch" again. Mitch has 5 vacation days til the end of the year -- use or lose -- and there's nothing we can think of to use!  Money and the plague are holding us back from doing anything (although, if push came to shove, we could probably find the money, but where could we go with a global pandemic???

** although (this is a political thought so feel free to skip).... I can't necessarily stereotype all Trump supporters as being like him, with no empathy, feelings, etc, etc, etc.  The woman across from us, on the day I returned from the hospital after surgery, she saw me getting out of the car and offered to help out in any way she could after we explained I just had hip surgery.  She even offered to clean!  (Still, there is that fear that the anti-Semites will rise against us.  We can pray they are not in this trailer park)
