Well, I am now almost 8 weeks out from surgery and I would say I'm about 95% of the way healed. A few more baby step milestones in my recovery: I was able to take a little walk a bit farther than before - to around the corner and back. Today is the first day I'm able to do laundry (the washer is deep and requires my twisting my body a little to get to the bottom, and it requires deep bending to reach the lint filter in the dryer), and am starting to walk around a bit more without a cane (still limping a bit but the leg feels much sturdier. The cane is for balance so when I use it, I'm not really leaning on it). For now, it seems the only real challenge I have is being able to lift my leg high enough to go up stairs or climb into the truck (for which I use a cane and step stool to assist). I can even bring my leg up onto the bed without using the leg lifter. Except when I try to lift my leg more than I'm able to, there is no pain at all. I'm sure the real pain will come when all the medical bills start to arrive!
We also learned that all the time Mitch took off of work to take care of me and for the Jewish holidays, was UPTO (unpaid time off) as opposed to vacation time. So he has 4 days of vacation to use by the end of the year. Due to the pandemic and an almost non-existent budget, can't really plan on doing anything super special (like Jamaica again) but we're toying with a long weekend in Raleigh to visit our daughter. We shall see. Stay tuned.
