As you know, the severe (bone on bone) arthritis in my left hip has gotten so bad that it's been hard to move in certain positions, climb stairs, bend, or even walk for more than 100 feet. I underwent 3 months of physical therapy which did help improve my range of motion but not the pain (which is due to the bone grinding against the bone). Side note: I knew about this problem for many years, but because my other hip, which had been replaced, dislocated 4 times--each time of which was extremely traumatic--I never, ever wanted to have to face that situation again. Sadly, my quality of life has gotten so bad, that I needed to re-evaluate that decision and decided to take the risk so, if nothing else, I could take a walk around the campground again.
When we landed in Florida at the beginning of 2019, I knew it was something I needed to do, but since Mitch was looking for work and every day, while he did extensive job searches, we never knew from one day to the next whether we'd need to move so I didn't want to make the commitment to have surgery if he'd land a job and we'd need to move right away.
Anyway, he did, very thankfully, land a job and we know we'll be where we are for a long while, so we decided it was safe enough to make the commitment. Oddly enough, the doctor I saw said that the hospital only required an OVERNIGHT stay, I wouldn't be required to go to a rehab facility, and someone would come to my home to start me on physical therapy right away. Although there may be some pain and a lot of exercise in the beginning, I don't foresee being incapacitated for any length of time. Hopefully, even, I can be sitting at my table working the next day. A far cry from my initial and revision surgeries!
