A Nice Shabbat

Notice that I am no longer giving the day of the year or the location. We are in our 7th year living in the RV and will probably be in Lake Padgett Village in Land O'Lakes FL for a while, so no need to keep repeating that.

The weather here lately (as is probably typical for Florida summers) was in the high 90s with a heat index of up to 110 degrees).  After davening (praying) at home since our shul once again stopped services** Mitch and I took our prayer books (and a few extra supplies such as drinks and magazines) and walked down to the gazebo at the lake.  It was extremely lovely and, at least for me, highly spiritual -- with only the sound of water lapping against the docks and the calling of water fowl... and, ok, the occasional loud motor boat).  We stayed at the lake for a few hours and then returned home when the heat got too much for me to bear.  Much later in the day, we took another walk in a different direction and discovered an area of the park we didn't know about... including where the clubhouse is.

** Two weeks ago (this is probably in one of my previous blog posts in Part II), after having no services since the beginning of March, our shul decided to resume having very limited Shabbat services.  There were only 1 chair per row, and each row was put 6' apart so very limited number of people could attend. The Torah was not passed around and there was no kiddush lunch.  But it was still wonderful being part of a community again.

This week, due to the highly increased number of coronavirus cases reported in our area (because of the premature reopening of businesses and many very selfish people who refuse to follow safety precautions such as social distancing and wearing masks), the shul decided it wasn't safe to hold services and again closed down.

Such is life these days.  I still have many, many things I am extremely grateful for and am in no way complaining.  I hope I can find a way to make a greater contribution.

On another note, regarding my hip surgery... it looks like I may be able to schedule something in August (not October)!!!   The doctor also said it would only be an overnight stay, with an aide coming to my home (rather than my going to rehab).  A big change from 10 years ago!  So we shall see.  Will know more tomorrow when I can get the schedule set in stone (although with this virus, who knows what will be).
